We know most brides are praying to anyone who’ll listen for a sunny wedding day, but we all know that Ireland is the last place you could guarantee a rain-free day, even in July it seems! But don’t worry, while we can’t control the weather, we can certainly help you not stress about it in the run-up to the big day. After all, there’s no point in getting stressed about what you can’t control.
It’s considered good luck
First and foremost, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck. In different cultures, rain represents unity, fertility and renewal. It signifies the cleansing of sad and difficult times and symbolises a long marriage that lasts. Some cultures also believe rain on your wedding day represents the last tears the bride will shed for the rest of her life.
Umbrellas are great props
We love pretty umbrellas almost as much as we love giant balloons, and though you may not want rain on your wedding day, pretty umbrellas do make for great props, especially in photographs. You might even opt for umbrellas as favours for your guests so they’re well protected for any festivities.
More cute rain accessories
It’s not just the umbrellas we love. Picture cute little wellies peeping out underneath your gown. Or use the rain as an excuse to invest in a stunning bridal raincoat for some of the outdoor pictures. There will be plenty of pictures of you in your dress, and extra accessories are always a good thing. Don’t forget about your bridesmaids.
Rain is better than extreme humidity
We know you’re praying for sunshine and hot weather, but cast a thought to the gentlemen guests at your wedding day standing around in three-piece suits in the boiling heat or heavy humidity. Sunshine is lovely but sometimes the cooler temperature that so often comes with an Irish shower can be refreshing.

Before you panic about how the rainy day is going to ruin your gorgeous summer day photographers, you should remember this: a professional photographer will not be perturbed by rain, in fact, some of the best photos come from some of the worst weather, so always look on the bright side. Remember, no matter what the weather is like, as long as the bride and groom keep smiling, the guests will be smiling too.
