You know by now that over the past week, New York was set alight by the pristine white wedding gowns that paraded up and down designer runways, giving us a taste for what’s to come in spring 2016. Bridal Fashion Week is the holy grail of trend watching. It is the one most anticipated bridal events of the season, in which designers will present us with their inspirations and new design concepts for the year ahead. It is the time of year where we sit up tightly and watch in earnest as each new collection is revealed – along with its new and exciting signature styles. This year has not failed to disappoint us, by giving us quite a few stand-out style features to drool over and watch unfold.

One major trendsetter and head turner we saw (and loved) in this year’s show was the bridal tuxedos and pant suits. Having previously been thought of as the elegant choice for a slightly older bride, this year, we are rejoicing as designers turned that preconception on its head. These elegant and stylish two pieces showed us that a bride is not confined to any age, nor any dress. You don’t have to wear a dress on your wedding day if it will make you uncomfortable or diverge against your own personal style – it’s perfectly acceptable, not to mention trés chic, to wear a modern jumpsuit or pants combo on the day.

Not only will you be applauded for embracing your own personal style and staying on the cusp of fashion consciousness, you will also look polished, sleek and confident walking down that aisle. After all, we all secretly know that women wear the pants in most relationships, and what better day to start than the wedding day?

For quite some time now designers have been pushing the concept of a highly tailored, structured wedding suit. Donned and made iconic by many bold celebrities such as Bianca Jagger and Marilyn Monroe on their own wedding days, and worn by modern trendsetters such as Taylor Swift and Kate Moss, the white two piece is now a style staple that is becoming a bridal favourite. Fashion week in New York this year has only confirmed this already growing trend, with designers such as Naeem Khan and Carolina Herrera showcasing bold suit creations. Our particular favourite among these pristinely tailored and structured beauties has to be the fully encompassing suit by Naeem Khan, with textured fabric, form-fitting structure and even an included bow tie and veil. It is a wedding suit that elegantly exudes both power and style, and will no doubt set to stun your guests.

However, these outfits weren't just limited to power suits and tight, controlled ensembles - meaning that if you still want to forgo the wedding dress but don’t want to wear an extreme, fitted suit, you can. Some softer, girly suit combinations were also on show this year, such as this romantic lace and silk arrangement from Sarah Seven. The top half consisted of a light lace crop top and the bottom included elegantly draped, flattering culottes. Meaning that you can still incorporate a bold new trend while retaining a dainty, airy, carefree ambiance. Whether it’s the daring cuts and commanding shapes you are looking to wear on your day, or a light dreamy ensemble to stretch your legs in, this year’s Bridal Fashion Week will no doubt give you a wedding suit to love.
