You probably already have a plan to try and stay healthy in the weeks running up to the big day for healthy glowing skin and hair. But it's not just a matter of eating loads of vegetables and staying away from the crisps and chocolate. There are some foods that, while they are healthy, might promote some unwanted bloating and water retention that you wouldn't fancy on the big day.

Healthy food

Beans

Yes, beans are very good for you but as you're probably already aware, they can make you quite gassy because they sugars in them are not digestible and they will make you bloated while they're working their way around too. Fish and chicken are better sources of protein in this situation.

Gum

You might fancy a quick stick of gum on the day itself to freshen your breath but think again! Gum is made with sugar alcohols, which cause bloating, as does the excess air that goes into your stomach when you chew gum. Better stick to the mints.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Vegetables wouldn't usually be a food that anyone should be avoiding but in the days leading up to the wedding, it might be a good idea to steer clear of the cruciferous vegetables, such as cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and broccoli. Like beans, these also contain sugars that are difficult to digest, bloating you out and giving off a gassy effect.

Dairy

Not necessarily a danger, but dairy is one of the most common foods for negative effects on your body. Anything from cramps and bloating, to feeling gassy. Just to be safe, consider reducing dairy or cutting it out altogether the week before your wedding. However, Greek yoghurt is actually beneficial, as the active cultures in it aids digestion.

Artificial Sweeteners

While you might think you're doing yourself a favour by cutting out sugar and replacing it with artificial sweeteners, there are problems that come with these too. Artificial sweeteners contain sugar alcohols, which most people can't digest properly, leading to more water retention and bloating.
